Hi, I’m Alex Hughes, and I’m a freelance cartoonist, caricaturist and illustrator. I’ve been at this game professionally since 1995. I draw a regular political cartoon for Tribune, and have also drawn for the BBC, the Big Issue, Red Pepper, the Daily Telegraph, and many more. I’m constantly working at developing my technique and range, and have recently moved over to drawing all my cartoons and caricatures digitally.
 

Caricatures are a big part of what I do, and I can produce caricatures for birthdays, anniversaries or retirement presents from photos. I also do ‘live caricaturing’ at wedding receptions, conferences and other events.
 

Personally, I was born in Solihull and have lived in the Birmingham area all my life. I’ve written a book – ‘Learn to Draw Caricatures’, which is available through this site. Although I do have a degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Warwick, I also studied for a Master of Arts in Visual Communications at the University of Central England in Birmingham (now Birmingham City University).
