About

About

We play a wide variety of jazz standards suitable for any event.  We are based in Hampshire but can travel to other counties to perform.

Angela Jackson grew up listening to the sound of jazz, with a professional musician father, who played with many well known bands and orchestras in London. Angela has sung in places as far afield as Geneva, Menorca, France and the US. As vocalist with a number of big bands, Angela has sung in many local venues, including Southampton's Concorde Club. She was lead vocalist with an Eastleigh-based 60's band.

Chris Page had piano lessons in classical music from 9-15 years old. At 21 he inherited the piano he first learnt on, which he still uses, and gradually learnt to improvise. In the mid-1990s he became hooked on jazz and he began playing in local bands more challenging than the rock/folk rock he had previously been interested in. He took some lessons in jazz improvisation. Now he regularly performs at various venues with other musician friends in and around the South.

Brian Tuxworth is based in Southampton. His first introduction to music was not entirely voluntary, being forced by his parents to play classical piano aged 4. However, he continued playing for the next 20 years. He took up the trumpet and played rhythm guitar & keyboards in a band that later became Peter Pod & the Peas. Brian regularly guests in jazz and big bands and leads his own band the Alley Catz.

Phil Clark was born in Stevenage, Hertfordshire in 1960. He first developed an interest in jazz during his teens when he started playing clarinet and saxaphone. After a break of 10 years he resumed playing in his 30s. He now regularly performs around the New Forest with his jazz quartet and local big bands. His main influences are Charlie Parker and Stan Getz.

Matt West was born into the ghetto of Irish Harlesden, London in 1964. He liked the idea at age 10 of opting out of religious studies for a regular double bass lesson. It was only short lived due to the intoxicating linger of cigarettes and alcohol from the tutor, coupled with the small airless and claustrophobic practice room. Matt remembers the late-night scratchy radio recording of Charles Mingus that began the journey and fascination with the upright bass. First in London in the early 90s and more recently as session player for many bands on the Southampton jazz scene.

John Baker was born in Southampton and started playing drums at 14, and had his first semi-professional gig at 15 playing with a pop group. He had his first professional gig at the age of 18 touring England and Northern Ireland. He was always interested in jazz and later switched from pop music to modern jazz. He has played with various local jazz musicians and has also backed well-known London-based musicians.
