About
in 2011 it was decided that the London City Big Band was to be formed. The aim, to put together an ensemble that plays timeless music with authenticity - something seldom seen nowadays. The band has performed to the public on numerous occasions and is currently making a huge impact on the UK jazz scene, gaining an ever growing reputation for being one of the top big bands in the country.
London City Big Band only recruits the very best of the up and coming musical talent that London has to offer. Every musician has been carefully hand picked to ensure an impeccable reputation and the highest level of musicality across the band.
All musicians in the band have extensive experience performing in the UK and overseas, and individually have performed in countless prestigious venues across the country, working with some of the finest musicians in the world today.
Led by trumpeter Barney Lowe, London City Big Band has had the pleasure of performing alongside some of the finest musicians in the UK today, including trombonist Mark Nightingale, trumpet player Mike Lovatt (lead trumpet of John Wilson Orchestra and BBC Big Band) and the widely acclaimed vocalist Jeff Hooper.
September 2014 saw the London City Big Band make their debut at the world famous Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, just three years after their first performance together. November 2014 also saw the band make their first appearence at the London Jazz Festival.
The band made their debut performance at the Spice of Life in Soho, one of London’s most reputable jazz venues, on Sunday 16th October 2011. Since then, they have secured a monthly residency at the club. Somewhat seen as the band’s ‘home’, the Spice of Life offers a beautifully relaxed setting to enjoy fantastic music.
